Red Red Meat: Bunny Gets Paid [Album Review]

Red Red Meat

With Sub Pop, you never really know what you’re gonna get. Were it any other label, that would be a bad thing, but with Sub Pop they have a consistency of releasing great music. And once again, they deliver with Bunny Gets Paid, which hit stores a few weeks back. Of course, it originally hit stores several years back — this Red Red Meat release is a reissue.

How do you review a reissue – an album that, in its original state, is near fifteen years gone? An album that, despite its history, I am just experiencing for the first time. Surely others have said it all before. You can’t, so I’ll do my best to not. What I can say is that the reasons are obvious as to why Sub Pop would reissue Bunny Gets Paid. It’s absolutely brilliant. It’s lo-fi, it’s packed with mystery. It’s not overly loud but not painfully quiet, and it’s got a stellar track list.

I’d like to think that the reason Sub Pop re-released this record is so die-hard music fans like myself who have not yet experienced an album so great as this would get the chance. And, if that’s the case, they’ve succeeded.
