The Low Anthem [Feature Artist]

The Low Anthem

You can always tell a classically trained artist when you hear one. It, for example, is the first thing I thought of upon listening to “Charlie Darwin” by The Low Anthem (MySpace), and sure enough this folk-leaning trio from the tiny state of Rhode Island includes Jocie Adams, a classical composer. Ben Miller and Jeffrey Prystowsky complete the trio and are the primary voices behind The Low Anthem.

And voices they are – hi-pitched enough to make Jeff Hanson and Joel Thibodeau sound manly. But contrary to Thibodeau’s eclectic poetry in Death Vessel, and Hanson’s emphasis on notable vocal hooks, The Low Anthem’s focus is one of harmony and peace. In “Charlie Darwin”, for example, each vocal note sounds as though it were calmly sung in an echoing chamber hall.

The Low Anthem’s latest (their third) release, Oh God, Charlie Darwin was self-released last September. It can be purchased from their homepage.
