The Stowaways

Written by Fense

Lo-fi indie pop with a sweet nature often gets labeled as twee, or at least sounding like twee. And that’s the first thing that comes to mind when listening to The Stowaways, whose style of indie pop features jangle-y guitars and a sweetness in the vocals.

At times both guitar and vocals have the sound of Tender Trap, Amelia Fletcher’s latest endeavor — and we all know she’s a famed twee star from the Sarah Records days. This is of course a wonderful thing, unless you’re not fond of twee. But I am fond of twee. So this style of indie pop is right up my alley. The only thing better is this style of indie pop with hand claps.

The Stowaways latest is a brief, 20-minute, self-titled EP that’s unfortunately over before you know what’s happened. But it’s packed with five great tunes that’ll push their way into your head and your heart.

I’ve included “A.U.T.O.M.A.T.I.C.” from the EP below; it is probably the most punctual track on the album. It’s filled with pointed guitar riffs and downplayed vocals mixed at just the right level, making them nearly indecipherable.
