Goldcure

Goldcure (MySpace) has the sound of Brit Daniels’ Spoon, both in voice and in backing instrumentation. Thus it should be no surprise that the band hails from Spoon’s hometown of Austin, TX. However, Goldcure injects a bit more country into the veins of their songs, from the title track of their upcoming Portugese Prince to the ballad-esque closer “Beautiful Disaster”.

While the Spoon influence is readily apparent, there is plenty here that Goldcure can call their own, namely in the country-base the guitar and drums lend to various songs throughout Portugese Prince. That album hits stores August 26 on Sorin Records.

The harmony vocals kicking off “Too Long”, the opening track on Portugese Prince, mixed with a consistent strum and some lightly distorted reverb in the lead guitar make for an effective and emotional song. It’s a pretty decent introduction to the band. Have at it…
