Caramelitus: Feature Band

Image“Vamos A La Playa”, or (loosely, and likely poorly translated by me) “Going To The Beach”, by Caramelitus is a calming track that doesn’t necessarily conjure summer beach imagery.  Instead the images are of a warm but somewhat overcast day.  The waves glide in and out calmly, the wind is minimal and there are no crowds.  I picture a blanket, a bottle of wine, and some cheese and crackers.  It’s a wonderful vacation—or better yet, lifestyle.

Caramelitus falls into a slightly more minimalistic electro-pop category.  The sounds are not exactly ambient, though calming is a fitting description.  The band consists of Camila Moreno and Tomäs Preuss.  Hailing from Chile, the duo will soon be featured on the second Si No Puedo Bailar, No Es Mi Revelución.  As with the label’s first release, Porque Este Oceáno Es El Tuyo, Es El Mío, I am lost to virtually all the lyrics and song titles.

Many of Caramelitus’ songs are filled with keyboards and synthesizers, on top of more electronically produced sound.  These key-based instruments give the songs a soothing drone-like feel.  A favorite is “Mapamundi”; here Tom joins Cam on vocals to add a bit of harmony that, like the rest of Caramelitus’ library of work, is quite pleasing.
