![]() My introduction to Leerone was via Myspace, as is much of the new music I find lately. In this case, Leerone found me. I normally don't bother listening to bands that send me requests, but she was so polite in asking me to listen to her, I thought "Why not?" I've never been one to turn down an opportunity to promote some quality female music.
The first song I heard, "Barely Here," starts off soft and steady with a spacey effect to it. Leerone's vocals are sweet and lend themselves to a sound that I'd be happy to sit around and relax to. Her music is simple, but she injects just enough emotion into her music to tug at you. Her melodies come across as quaint and fragile but her strong vocals make her songs solid. On her most recent release, Hail to the Queen, the songs are much simpler, but her piano/vocal combinations are reminiscent of Tori Amos (with perhaps less obscure lyrical references) on songs like "Coming" and "Catching Snowflakes." Leerone is the down-to-earth poet you want to be friends with. More than anything she makes honest, earnest music. Her stories of the journeys of life inspire a hope and reassurance that one is not alone in their experiences. When you listen you feel like you're having a long conversation with an old friend. Leerone's songs are universally relatable but also sound timeless. Even in contrast between her first and second releases, Leerone stays strong with or without the additional layers of sound.
